Rep. O'Brien: Evansville-area schools honored with state education awards

STATEHOUSE (Oct. 14, 2026) – State Rep. Tim O'Brien (R-Evansville) recently congratulated three Evansville-area schools honored at the 2026 Indiana Educational Excellence Awards Gala in Indianapolis.

Evansville Christian School Newburgh and Newburgh Elementary School were among 16 schools statewide named Indiana Blue Ribbon Schools, according to O'Brien.

O'Brien said the two schools were recognized for their overall academic excellence and fostering an environment of learning and growth for all students, helping them to reach their full potential.

"Being named one of just 16 Blue Ribbon Schools in Indiana is an incredible accomplishment for these schools and something our entire community should celebrate," O'Brien said. "The teachers and staff at Evansville Christian School and Newburgh Elementary are going above and beyond to help their students learn, grow and thrive."

Indiana's Blue Ribbon School designation celebrates schools with proven academic performance and transformative ideas that help their students succeed. The Indiana Department of Education selects a new group of honorees annually, highlighting schools whose practices can serve as examples for other educators.

Caze Elementary also received the $20,000 Excellence in Literacy Award at the gala. The award recognizes an individual school or corporation that has established strategies and partnerships to support all students in the mastery of foundational reading skills.

"Strong reading skills help students in every subject, and I'm thrilled that Caze Elementary is leading the way in supporting early literacy," O'Brien said. "This award recognizes their efforts and provides additional funding to help more students in our community become confident readers."

The annual gala brought together more than 550 guests from across Indiana to recognize dedicated educators and support professionals, as well as key partners whose work is expanding opportunities for students statewide.
