Board of Assessors Vacancy - Submit Letter of Interest
There is currently a vacancy on the Hampden Board of Assessors. This three-member elected board plays a vital role in the financial management of the Town. Assessors are required by law to list and value all real and personal property within the Town. The Assessors are responsible for committing motor vehicle excise taxes, administering the agricultural, recreational and forestry tax programs (aka Chapter land), processing exemptions and abatements, maintaining a mapping system for assessment purposes and maintaining the computer-based inventory of property records for all land, buildings and businesses with the Town of Hampden. The Assessor's office is staffed by a full-time Principal Assessor and an Assessor's Clerk.
The appointed individual will serve in the position until the next annual Town election (May 2027) when the position will be listed on the election ballot.
Desired Qualifications for Board of Assessors
- applicant must be a resident of the Town of Hampden
- applicant must be a registered voter in the Town of Hampden
- applicant must have good communication skills
- applicant must be an analytical thinker
- applicant must be willing to train within the Division of Local Services Program to receive a certificate
- applicant must be willing to meeting continuing education courses as the MA Commissioner of Revenue may require
